A digital surveillance campaign has been launched in the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea, within the framework of which employees of educational and state structures are obliged to install the “Mach” messenger, developed by the Ministry of Digital Development of Russia.

This is stated in publications Center of National Resistance in the Telegram network.

Employees are required to provide written confirmation of the installation of the application, and the management of organizations must form lists of people who have installed it and submit daily reports to the management.

In addition to problems with the new requirements of supervisory authorities, the peninsula is experiencing serious communication disruptions and fuel shortages, which have already affected transport and cashless payments.

Experts say that instead of improving the situation, Crimeans are facing a new form of control, increasing censorship and limiting access to information, while central authorities try to isolate the region and introduce new surveillance tools.

The campaign highlights the growing pressure on the population to comply in order to keep their jobs. Against this background, Russian special services continue to spread disinformation through social networks, involving citizens in pro-Russian propaganda, which indicates the tightening of control over the information space in the occupied territories.
