The appointment of Diella was a reaction to many years of corruption scandals in Albania, which are related to public procurement. This country, according to experts, is the center of activity of organized criminal groups engaged in laundering funds received from drug trafficking and weapons. This image complicates the process of integration of Albania into the European Union, which Prime Minister Rama plans to complete by 2030.
Diella, which in Albanian means “the sun,” previously functioned as a virtual assistant on the E-Albania platform. It helped citizens and businesses to receive state documents using voice teams and electronic seals. Its interface is decorated in the style of traditional Albanian clothing.
The Albanian government has not specified what level of human control will be applied to Diella, as well as what are the risks of its possible manipulation by humans.
