In his new statement, the artist focused especially on the activities of NK (Nastya Kamenskikh) and Potap, whose recent news appearances again caused a public outcry.
“The Ukrainian scene today is not about beautiful pictures and fan service. It is about honesty, responsibility and the courage to tell the truth. When the country is at war, every word of a public person has weight. If you are not ready to call a spade a spade, don’t return to this territory,” the performer said.
According to him, many artists are trying to “sit through” difficult times, to keep an audience in the Russian Federation or not to lose income, and pretend that the war does not concern them.
In a comment for UNIAN, Ihor Tselyp spoke frankly about the duo NK and Potap, stressing that it was their behavior that became a symbol of duplicity in show business.
“The problem is not that someone once performed in Russia. The problem is that after February 24, some people continued to sit silently and maneuver between the two markets. It’s not about art, it’s about a choice. And this choice was seen by many,” said the artist.
According to him, NK’s attempts to return to the Ukrainian information space look superficial and timid, and Potap has “still not voiced what he should have said a long time ago”:
“To call Russia an aggressor is the minimum. To admit that your career was built on the Russian market is honesty. And to pretend that everything is normal is an insult to those who risk their lives for Ukraine every day.”
The singer is convinced that Ukrainian culture has become another front today. And artists who are not ready to defend this front should honestly voice it or take a step back: “Music is a weapon. And if you don’t fight with it, you turn it into scenery. I’m ashamed of those who want to leave behind “backroads”. Ukraine is not about that now.”
Tselyp added that the return of artists who have been silent for a long time or worked for the Russian audience is possible only under the condition of complete openness:
“Everything can be forgiven – but only after a person admits his mistakes. Ukrainian society is not blind. It is not waiting for the statements of PR people, but sincerity. Without this, the return of NK and Potap looks insincere and artificial.”
