Iga is going home. Keys knocked out Svyontek in dramatic Aus Open 2025 semi-final

The second racket of the world Iga Svyontek (Poland) has been eliminated from the 2025 Australian Open.

In the semifinals, the Poles lost to the Americans in three sets Madison Keys (USA, WTA 14) in three sets in 2 hours and 37 minutes.

Madison Keys (USA) [19] – Iga Swentek (Poland) [2] – 5:7, 6:1, 7:6 (10:8)

The third party is a real drama. Until the 8th game, the girls took their serves relatively calmly. Iga came out to serve and Madison earned 2 break points, but the Pole managed to make the score 4:4. In the 9th game, Iga already had four hidden match points, but she failed to realize any of them, in particular Keys saved herself from 0:40.

In the 10th game, Iga Keys won 30:15 on the serve, but the Pole took the next 3 points with character. And in the 10th game, the first break in the set was made – Svyontek took the American’s serve. Iga came out to serve for the match and failed to do so – Keys played one match point and moved the game to a decisive super tiebreak.

In the super tie, Iga led four times with a mini-break, but Madison still won.

This was the sixth meeting of the rivals. Keys won the second head-to-head.

In the final, Keys will play against world number one Aryna Sobolenko, who previously knocked out Paula Badosa.

Madison made it to the decisive match of a major for the second time in her career. In 2017, she lost to her compatriot Sloane Stephens in the US Open final 0:6, 3:6.

In addition to Svyontek, Keys also won against Anne Lee, Yelena-Gabriela Ruse, Danielle Collins, Yelena Rybakina and Elina Svitolina at AO-2025.
