According to the publication, despite the efforts of Turkmenistan’s authorities to prevent recruitment, the Russians continue to attempt to attract citizens of the country, mainly in the assault units.
From 2023, according to the project, the number of Turkmenistan citizens recruited is gradually increasing, although it remains the smallest among Central Asia. The main motives for signing the contract are the financial reward and the possibility of obtaining Russian citizenship.
The project also states that foreigners are most often headed for the front and rarely received the appointment to the rear units.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine earlier called on foreigners published in the Russian army, avoid participating in hostilities and on the first occasion to contact the project “I want to live” created for delivery.
In total, 1257 citizens of Central Asia are in the ranks of Russian troops fighting against Ukraine, despite the expiration of their contracts, reports the project “I want to live”.
On August 12, the project published a list of leading countries by the number of mercenaries held in the Russian army after the end of the contracts. In the first place was Uzbekistan: according to “I want to live”, 426 Uzbekistans with a contract that remain in the Armed Forces of Russia.
