The interviewer positively evaluated the show “Bachelor” for its delicate and progressive coverage of the topic of disability.
The famous Ukrainian interviewer and feminist Emma Antoniuk expressed her opinion about the reality show “The Bachelor”, in particular, drawing attention to the 13th season, where the main character was the war veteran Oleksandr Teren.
Antonyuk does not hide her skepticism about the format of the show, where, she says, twenty attractive women compete for one man, with all the clichés about female competition and gossip. She believes that such a format exists only thanks to the patriarchal system, which favors women.
However, despite criticism of the format, Antonyuk recognized the progressive nature of this season of “The Bachelor.” She noted the open discussion of the topic of disability, which is an important step in the fight against the stigmatization of people with disabilities in Ukrainian society.
“Although the format is balanced by The Bachelorette, the idea of twenty attractive women competing for one man, with all the clichés about female competition and gossip, is not mine. I understand that this is a genre. And I also understand that it only exists because of patriarchal a system that harms a woman as a person,” the feminist noted.
Antonyuk was especially impressed by the moments where the participants openly talked about sex with an amputee, as well as the scenes where Oleksandr Teren actively spends time, does sports and demonstrates his strength of spirit.
“I squealed with delight when a woman discussed her disability group with Kholostyak. When Ulyana Pcholkina talked to the participants about having sex with an amputee. When it’s as beautiful as a spring dawn, Teren rides a snowmobile and climbs a rock. When the topic of disability is broadcast with respect and without pity. We (I mean the country and the media) set such a high bar for this format in the world that it is impossible not to notice it, – said Antoniuk..
She also drew attention to the positive feedback about the 13th season of “The Bachelor” in foreign media.
Also, according to Antonyuk, the show “Bachelor” with Oleksandr Teren does an important thing for Ukrainian society, destroying stereotypes about people with disabilities and veterans.
It will be recalled that the ex-contemporary of “Bachelor-13” commented on her participation in the show and departure from it.
