How many Ukrainians still have no Internet – survey

Media literacy and media competence
A sharp increase in media literacy index occurred after the start of a full -scale war -The share of Ukrainians with a level higher than the average increased from 55% in 2021 to 81% in 2022. It is a level of ability to consciously perceive and critically interpret information, as well as to use the variety of media.

But in 2024, this figure decreased to 72%, which explained by adaptation to the media, fatigue from information tension and changes in the methodology.

Digital competence decreased from 55% to 48%. Youth ages 18-35 shows a higher level of digital skills, but in the age group 56-65 is the lowest.

Among Ukrainians with secondary education, 41% have a low level of media literacy, and among those with higher education – only 16%.

Media literacy indicators are higher among residents of cities and people with higher well -being. Among those who have enough food alone, 44% have low or lower media literacy. In the category that can save – only 19%.
Use the Internet and artificial intelligence
91% of Ukrainians use the Internet daily, and only 5% do not have access to it. 58% of the respondents watch videos or movies online, 39% – make purchases.

The most popular sources of socio-political news were Telegram (60%) and YouTube (37%).

Only 16% of the audience does not use Telegram and 11% – YouTube.

YouTube and Facebook are most commonly used for learning, and Viber is used for communication.

28% of Ukrainians enjoy artificial intelligence. Most often – for work (14%) or training (12%).

72% do not use artificial intelligence: 37% do not need, 13% do not know how to do it, and 11% have not even heard about AI.
Media and censorship
62% of Ukrainians surveyed consider the problem of misinformation significant. 43% check the sources of information, 33% are focused on photo or video confirmation, and 30% on the reputation of the author. At the same time, only 17% are convinced that fakes can always recognize.

Most Ukrainians are cautious about the media – there is a general decrease in confidence in all types of sources. At the same time, the proportion of those who trust the content in part increases.

Suspicion of manipulation is caused by unilateral coverage of events (47%), lack of sources (39%) or inaccurate information (43%). 66% believe that content is often distorted in the interests of politicians.

The support of the Telelorphone United news decreased from 45% in 2022 to 17% in 2024. 77% of respondents are looking for alternative sources due to lack of different points of view.

Most Ukrainians (70%) consider the media to inform citizens. At the same time, 51% believe that the media work in the interests of the authorities, and 24% – in the interests of the owners.

Three of four Ukrainians (75%) believe that the state establishes rules governing the media.

The largest number of audience (34%) believes that there is no censorship in Ukraine officially, but it exists in a hidden form. 42% state the presence of media censorship in the country, and 17% believe that there is no censorship at all.

Every second Ukrainian (44%) supports the criticism of the authorities in the media. Among this audience is dominated by men, persons of the older age group. This opinion is also more commonly supported by persons with higher educational status.

At the same time, 17% do not support public criticism of the state.
Public media
The vast majority of respondents (74%) considers public media important. 58% of respondents are convinced that such media in Ukraine exist, and 21% believe that there are no independent broadcasters in the country.

Most often, Ukrainians consider public media important because they work in the interests of the whole society, not the owner (51%); cover topics that are not interested in commercial media – social problems, culture, science (10%); And not yet interested in manipulation (13%).

The share of the audience, which has been paid for access to at least one of the types of content (video, audio, or online publications) over the past year.

Moreover, 25% paid for video content (Netflix, Megogo, other stringing platforms, YouTube Premium, etc.); 18% – for audio content (Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, etc.).

3% of respondents bought access to online publications, and 17% made charitable contributions for the benefit of any media.

Meanwhile, the “Action” application will have a function that will allow Ukrainians to complain to a poor mobile or internet.

Almost a third of the Internet access operators have stopped working after banning working in a simplified form of taxation.
