Russian Gazprom stopped supplying gas to the Austrian company OMV. As of November 16, the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine has not changed.
This is evidenced by the data of the GTS Operator of Ukraine.
According to the company, the volume of the confirmed nomination for transit deliveries on November 16 is 42.39 million cubic meters, while on November 15 transit was in the volume of 42.3 million cubic meters.
According to Bloomberg, volumes of gas previously received by OMV are taken or moved by other buyers.
Transit gas enters Ukraine through the “Suja” (Russian Federation) gas processing plant and goes to Slovakia and Poland.
Gazprom refused to supply gas to Austria’s OMV after it announced that it intends to deduct EUR 230 million (+%) from Gazprom Export’s next payment for gas. The arbitration awarded this amount in favor of OMV from Gazprom Export. OMV announced the receipt of the arbitration decision on November 13. It was accepted in favor of the Austrian company as compensation for losses due to irregular gas supplies by Gazprom Export to Germany, which eventually stopped in September 2022.
“OMV is taking measures to collect damages from Gazprom Export based on this arbitration decision in the amount of EUR 230 million plus interest and court costs. The arbitration decision will be immediately credited to the account of payments that OMV will have to make in favor of Gazprom Export under the contract for the supply of gas to Austria,” the company said.
The amount of 230 million euros can be compared with the cost of a monthly supply of gas to Austria from the Russian Federation.
In the evening of November 15, OMV reported that it had received a message from Gazprom Export to stop gas supply from 06:00 CET (07:00 Kyiv time) on November 16.
We will remind that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiga commented on the termination of gas supplies to Austria by the Russian Gazprom. He noted that Russia is again trying to use energy carriers as a weapon.
Earlier we wrote that the Russian Gazprom will stop supplying natural gas transit through Ukraine to the Austrian company OMV. The new rules will come into effect tomorrow, November 16.
We will also remind you that the possible termination of gas supplies from Russia leads to an increase in prices for blue fuel in Europe.
