Ukrainians should support Belarus, talk to them and show that they are not enemies. After all, from TV they are convinced that the only “brother” is Russia, though it is not true.
This is what the head of the Belarusian-Ukrainian Hub “Sustrecha” Elena Zharkevich. She expressed her opinion at the conference “Belarus after the election: what next?” in Kiev.
According to the activist, when the war began, rumors were spread among Belarusians that Ukraine cancel their documents and “throws away” them from the country. However, it was a clear exaggeration.
“I was not here, I was not thrown away, I have everything in order with the documents,” says Zharokevich.
For this purpose, it is necessary to talk to Belarusians, says the head of “Sustrechi”. If citizens of Belarus see this support, they will understand that Ukraine is not an enemy.
“Supporting us, Belarusians, here (in Ukraine – ed.) Is the main argument for Belarusians there … Unfortunately, Belarus is occupied. And officially on Lukashenko television they say that “we are supported only by Russia.” And they see it, they see it on shelves in stores, they listen to what they say, our products need only the Russian Federation, they are told about it in factories … that only Russians take us. Therefore, we need to actively support Belarus … If they believe that only the Russians are brothers, then we will lose Belarus, ”Zhakevich said.
In her opinion, none of Belarus desires war. It does not depend on the views: both those who are for Lukashenko and those who would not be against war in Belarus or confrontation with Ukraine. And this is a key point, the activist summarized.
