A police investigator from Kryvyi Rih was detained and reported on suspicion of fraud, misappropriation of someone else’s property, unauthorized interference in electronic systems and illegal handling of weapons.
According to the case file, in 2024, a law enforcement officer, using his official powers, took the phones, passports and bank cards of persons who died of natural causes.
After receiving personal belongings, he withdrew money from ATMs, paid in stores and also accessed banking applications on stolen phones, which allowed him to access pensioners’ accounts. In some cases, he issued loans in the names of the deceased. In total, the police officer seized more than 740 thousand hryvnias.
During the searches, bank cards, mobile phones, passports of the deceased, as well as ammunition and three units of unregistered firearms were found in his apartment. The suspect was remanded in custody with the possibility of bail in the amount of 3 million hryvnias.
The pre-trial investigation is conducted by the Main Investigative Department of the State Bureau of Investigation, operational support is provided by the Department of Internal Security of the National Police of Ukraine.
