Hans-Dieter Flick: “Now is not the best moment for the team. Bruges showed it”

Head coach of the Spanish “Barcelona” Hans-Dieter Flick shared his emotions after the Champions League match, in which the Catalan team drew with the Belgian “Bruges” (3:3).

“It was a difficult match. We created chances, but they defended well and were aggressive. We did not press the ball and lost many duels, especially in the center of the field. It’s not easy to defend yourself like that.

We need to work on it and analyze everything. It’s about more intensity when we don’t have the ball. Barcelona must be alert when opponents create chances with one or two touches. We need to defend not only in defense, but also in midfield. We need to improve this area.

We can change things, but at the same time we have to stick to our philosophy. No need to change the style of play; we are “Barca”. We need to play better. When there is no intensity, there are no moments. Teams in the Champions League change tactics very quickly and Club Brugge showed that very well, we respect that. A 3:3 draw is not the best result, but it’s good that we fought back.

Everyone has to play in their position and press. We played well on Sunday in a 3-1 home win against Elche. Today, we succeeded in some situations, but not in others. No need to make excuses, because the starting line-up was the same. Now is not the best moment for the team. It is necessary to play at a different level.”
