In Poltava, law enforcement officers sent an indictment to the court against seven officials and employees of Poltava Mining and Processing Plant (Poltava GZK). They were accused of embezzling over 370 million hryvnias.
This was reported by the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).
According to the investigation, during 2019-2021, the management of the plant illegally disposed of minerals of national importance. It illegally sold tons of mineral raw materials worth almost 80 million hryvnias without a special permit for subsoil use.
“They sold them to controlled subjects of economic activity at undervalued prices without the corresponding special permit for the use of subsoil. In this way, the defendants sold almost UAH 80 million worth of mineral raw materials to “their companies” at a price of UAH 30-50 per ton,” the Prosecutor General’s Office reported.
The enterprises that were involved in the scheme resold raw materials with a 10-fold markup, and the amount of equipment was more than UAH 380 million.
The extras in the case were charged under Part 3, Article 5. 27 part 5 of Art. 191, Part 3.5 Art. 27 part 3 of Art. 209 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. They face 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Poltava Mining and Processing Plant is part of the Ferrexpo plc group, which is controlled by billionaire Konstantin Zhevago. The company occupies a leading position among the world’s producers of high-quality pellets, and remains a significant payer of rent for the use of subsoil for the extraction of minerals.
Earlier, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau detained the former director of the production structural division of Ukrzaliznytsia Cherkasy Track Repair and Mechanical Plant. The former official is suspected of embezzlement.
And in Donetsk region, an official of one of the military units will be tried, due to whose actions almost 20 tons of diesel fuel were wasted. The SBI completed a pre-trial investigation into the head of logistics.
