Alphabet’s Google has won a 1.49 billion euro ($1.66 billion) antitrust fine imposed five years ago for obstructing competitors in online search advertising, a week after it lost a major a bigger deal.

The European Commission said in a 2019 ruling that Google abused its dominance to prevent websites from using intermediaries other than its AdSense platform, which served search ads. The practice, which she says was illegal, took place between 2006 and 2016.

As Reuters writes, the Luxembourg-based general court largely agreed with the European Union’s antimonopoly authority in the case, but overturned the fine. The AdSense fine, one of three fines that cost Google a total of €8.25 billion, was triggered by a complaint from Microsoft in 2010.
