German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius handed over the first RCH 155 self-propelled artillery installation to Ukraine. The ceremony took place on January 13 in Kassel, where the defense concern KNDS produces these combat systems.

In total, Germany plans to transfer 54 such self-propelled guns to Kyiv. The first six installations will remain in Germany for the time being, and Ukrainian servicemen will be trained at them.

The RCH 155 (Remote Controlled Howitzer) is a modern German self-propelled artillery installation based on a modified Boxer armored personnel carrier chassis and equipped with an AGM (Artillery Gun Module) artillery system.

According to the manufacturer, it has an automatic loader and automated guidance, which provides a rate of fire of more than 8 shots per minute, with ammunition up to 30 shots. The crew of RCH 155 consists of only 2-3 people. And an additional feature of self-propelled guns is the unique ability to fire while moving.

On December 11, the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, reported that Germany’s total aid to Ukraine amounted to 37 billion euros. This is the largest among all European countries.
