Details: Funds will be provided for the repair of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure through the Credit Institution for Reconstruction (Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau). The funds will go to the Fund for Energy Support of Ukraine of the Energy Community, to which, starting in 2022, numerous other international donors will also contribute.

“Ukraine’s civilian energy infrastructure continues to be the target of massive Russian airstrikes. A collapse of energy supply during the third winter of the war would have catastrophic consequences for the Ukrainian economy and population. Therefore, supporting Ukraine is more important than ever.

By making another payment to the Energy Community’s Energy Support Fund of Ukraine, we are making an important contribution to supporting Ukraine’s energy supply so that the people of Ukraine can continue to receive electricity and heat,” said Minister of Economy, Vice Chancellor Robert Habek.

Ukraine uses the Energy Support Fund to finance spare parts and equipment for destroyed energy infrastructure.

The European Energy Community conducts tenders for the purchase of goods and controls the use of funds. Thus, Ukrainian energy companies can repair the destroyed network infrastructure and power plants.

German contributions are also aimed at strengthening the stability of the Ukrainian energy system in a sustainable way. For this purpose, a part of the contributed funds is directed to “green” energy transition projects, which lay the foundations for further expansion of the decentralized component of the Ukrainian energy system.

As of the end of 2023, the German government has already paid more than €155 million into the Energy Support Fund. Thus, Germany’s total contribution will rise to 360 million euros by the end of 2024.

During her visit to Kyiv on Monday, November 4, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, Annalena Berbok, announced the allocation of 200 million euros of additional winter aid for Ukraine.
