In his speech, he separately touched the topic of war in Ukraine, warning that in the event of its surrender, the Kremlin’s master Vladimir Putin will prepare for a new aggression.
Merz stressed that the war in Ukraine should end, but “not at any cost.”
“We do not want Ukraine to capitulate. Such a surrender will only give Russia time, and Putin will use this time to prepare for the next war,” the head of the German government warned.
Speaking of Moldova’s path to EU membership, Merz noted that the country’s progress “should not be considered for granted, since everything could have happened completely differently”, referring to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
