George Clooney moved his children to France after feeling that they ‘wouldn’t get a fair shake at life’ in Hollywood.
The 64-year-old actor, who shares twins Ella and Alexander with his wife, Amal Clooney, opened up about their idyllic family home.
‘Yeah, we’re very lucky. You know, we live on a farm in France,’ the Jay Kelly star told Esquire in a recent interview.
‘A good portion of my life growing up was on a farm, and as a kid, I hated the whole idea of it. But now, for them, it’s like — they’re not on their iPads, you know? They have dinner with grown-ups and have to take their dishes in. They have a much better life.’
‘I was worried about raising our kids in L.A., in the culture of Hollywood,’ the Ocean’s 8 star continued. ‘I felt like they were never going to get a fair shake at life.
‘France — they kind of don’t give a sh*t about fame. I don’t want them to be walking around worried about paparazzi. I don’t want them being compared to somebody else’s famous kids.’
According to Esquire, George and Amal’s farm boasts one hundred acres of grapes and twelve hundred olive trees.

The couple are notoriously private when it comes to their family life (Picture: Smith/SOPA Images/Shutterstock) Embracing rural life, the Oscar winner even has a tractor, which he uses to drive his children around on, and he’s a big believer in getting them to help out on the farm.
George added that during spring, Ella and Alexander, eight, carried out some DIY when they joined him in applying protective oil to one of their fences.
For George, living in the French countryside has given his family a ‘normal’ way of life.
Speaking with The New York Times in February, George revealed that his home in France has become the family’s primary residence; however, he and Amal also have properties in Kentucky and England.
‘Growing up in Kentucky, all I wanted to do was get away from a farm, get away from that life,’ the A-lister explained. ‘Now I find myself back in that life. I drive a tractor and all those things. It’s the best chance of a normal life.’

On occasion, however, he has shared an anecdote or two about his marriage to human rights barrister Amal, as well as their little ones.
Last December, during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, George joked that he was trying to get his kids to ditch British slang.
‘I’m desperately trying not to make them little Brits,’ he told the talk show host. ‘It’s not a jumper, it’s a sweater. It’s not a boot, it’s the trunk. It’s the pavement, it’s the sidewalk.’
‘I have done everything to try to change their version of speaking with an English accent, so they were writing out their note to Santa, and I said, “Okay, write you’re note and then we’re gonna leave them cookies and milk right under the fireplace”.
‘And my son goes, “No, it’s milk and mince pie,” and I was like, oh no, oh no…bridge too far.’
