General Staff: there were 199 clashes at the front during the day, the situation “remains tense”

The situation at the front remains tense, 199 combat clashes have been recorded over the past 24 hours, the Ukrainian General Staff reported in its morning briefing on December 18.

“In the Pokrovsky direction, our defenders stopped 38 assault and offensive actions of the aggressor… In the Kurakhivsk direction, the Defense Forces repelled 28 attacks… In the Vremivsk direction, the enemy carried out 27 assaults on our positions,” the summary says.

In addition, according to the General Staff, Ukrainian forces repelled 49 Russian attacks in the Kursk direction last day.

Fighting also continued in the Kharkiv, Kupyan, Lyman, Siver, Kramatorsk, Toretsk, Orihiv, Dnieper directions.

The day before, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Oleksandr Syrskyi, said that Ukrainian forces are conducting active combat operations on a section of the front with a length of more than 1,170 kilometers, and the most difficult situation is now in the Pokrovsky and Kurakhiv directions.

Also, according to him, the forces of the Russian Federation have significantly increased the pressure on the Kramatorsk, Toretsk and Vremivsk directions and for the third day they are carrying out “intense offensive actions”, involving the troops of the DPRK, in the territory of the Kursk region with the aim of ousting units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine from the territory of the Russian Federation.
