Since the beginning of the day, 199 combat clashes have taken place on the front, in particular, in the Kursk region of Russia, the Ukrainian military has repelled 44 Russian attacks, and another 42 combat clashes are still ongoing, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported in a summary as of 22:00 on January 6.

In addition, according to the command, since the beginning of this day in the Pokrovsky direction, units of the Russian Federation forces have tried 40 times to break through the defenses of Ukrainian troops near the settlements of Myrolyubivka, Promin, Sukhy Yar, Pishchane, Kotlyne, Ukrainka, Yasenove, Novoelizavetivka, Tarasivka, Elizavetivka, Lysivka, Zelene, Novy Trud and Pokrovsk. So far, 10 clashes are ongoing.

“In the Kurakhiv direction, the enemy is also active – 25 times it attacked our positions near Slovianka, Srybny, Andriivka, Petropavlivka, Kurakhovo and Dachnoy, two battles continue. In the area of ​​Andriivka, the enemy dropped two anti-tank missiles,” the message reads.

As noted in the General Staff, fighting also continued in the Lymansky, Kramatorsk, Toretsk, Kharkiv, Kupyansk, Siversk, Vremivsk, Orichivsk, and Dnieper directions.

On January 5, Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation of the NSDC, reported that “Russian troops in Kursk were attacked from several directions, which was a surprise for them.”

According to the American Institute for the Study of War, Ukrainian troops resumed offensive operations in at least three directions within the Ukrainian salient in Russia’s Kursk region and achieved a tactical advance on January 5.

Subsequently, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation confirmed that the Armed Forces of Ukraine had launched a new assault on Kurshchyna. At the same time, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, announced “good news” from the Kursk region” and that Russia “receives what it deserves.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said on January 6 that Russia had suffered significant losses during five months of fighting with Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation. In particular, according to him, it is about 15,000 killed Russian soldiers, and the total losses amounted to more than 38,000 people.

On January 6, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine noted that of the nearly 12,000 North Korean troops that Russia had engaged in hostilities, about 4,000 “have already been liquidated, and some of the units have lost combat capability.”

The armed forces of Ukraine began an operation in the Kursk region on August 6, occupying more than 1,000 square kilometers. Then the Russian army, with the help of North Korean troops, was able to recapture part of the territory.

In November, the Reuters agency, citing a high-ranking Ukrainian military source who works in the General Staff of Ukraine, reported that due to Russian counterattacks, Ukraine had lost more than 40% of the territory in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation, which it captured during hostilities in August. According to the source, Russia has deployed about 59,000 troops in the Kursk region.
