According to the General Staff, the largest number of battles took place in the Kurakhiv direction, where the Defense Forces repelled 47 attacks. “The occupiers most actively tried to move forward in the areas of Izmailivka, Hirnyk, Kurakhivka, Zhelany Drugy, Tsukuryny, Novodmytrivka, Novoselidivka, Georgiyivka, Kostyantynivka, Kurakhovo, Zoryany, Dalnyy and Antonivka,” the message reads.
“In the Pokrovsky direction, our defenders stopped 36 assault and offensive actions of the aggressor towards the settlements of Myrolyubivka, Lysivka, Krutiy Yar, Selidove, Novotroitske, Myrnograd, and Mykhailivka,” the message reads.
There were 23 Russian attacks in the Kupyansk direction, 19 in the Lymansk direction, and 15 in the Toretsk direction.
In addition, battles took place in the Siversky, Kramatorsk, Vremivskyi, Orikhovsky and Prydniprovsky directions, the General Staff noted.
“According to detailed information, yesterday the enemy launched five missile strikes against the positions of Ukrainian units and populated areas using eight missiles, as well as 90 airstrikes, in particular, dropping 158 anti-aircraft missiles. In addition, he fired 4,243 shots, 156 of them from rocket salvo fire systems,” the report says.
The American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) concluded in its October 9 report that the Russian command likely wanted to accelerate the pace of mechanized offensives in Ukraine in order to make progress before autumn rains hampered the movement of equipment.
Analysts believe that the main goal is to gain a foothold in front-line settlements that can be used as a bridgehead for further operations, for example, to capture Kurakhovo or Pokrovsk.
On the evening of October 10, the DeepState project reported that the Russian army immediately captured three villages on the road to Myrnograd in the Donetsk region – Mykolaivka, Chervyn Yar and Krutiy Yar. Judging by the map, the aggressor has about a kilometer left to the south-eastern outskirts of Mirnograd – Pokrovsk’s satellite city.
Later, analysts noted that soon the city will feel the pressure of the aggressor and his attempts to break through to the southern outskirts, and his successes are often explained by the poor quality of the fortifications on the part of the Armed Forces.
