Gassiev responded to questions about a potential match with Usyk

Regular world champion according to the WBA version in super heavyweight (over 90.7 kg), Russian Murat Gassiev (33–2, 26 KOs) responded to a journalist’s question about a potential match with Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk (24–0, 15 KOs).

On Friday, December 12, Gassiev knocked out the WBA Regular title holder, Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev, in the sixth round. The newly minted champion said that he is ready for any challenges, but at this stage not much depends on him.

“I’ve always said that my job is to train, do my job and box with the opponents that my team gives me. If it were up to me, I could choose, but I’m not in that situation.

I will box whoever they give me. Now I’m only thinking about going home and spending time with my family,” the Russian admitted in an interview with Sports24.kz.

Gassiev met Usyk in July 2018 in a fight for the title of absolute world champion in cruiserweight and was defeated by a unanimous decision.
