The G7 ambassadors welcome the Verkhovna Rada’s approval of the law on reforming the customs service.

“We congratulate the Verkhovna Rada on the successful approval of the legislation on reforming the customs service. The fight against shadow markets, the reduction of corruption and the increase of revenues to the budget are critically important for supporting the military efforts and ensuring the financial stability of Ukraine,” says the message of the group of G7 ambassadors in support of Ukraine, published on the social network Kh.

On September 17, the Verkhovna Rada adopted draft law No. 6490-d on the reset of customs. The document, among other things, provides for a transparent competition for the head of the State Customs Service (SSC) with the participation of international organizations, the political independence of the head of the SSC and his dismissal based on the conclusion of the audit, re-certification of all employees within 18 months of the appointment of a new head.

According to Vitaly Shabunin, chairman of the board of the public organization “Anti-corruption Center”, the adoption of this law should increase budget revenues by 100 billion hryvnias over several years.

Previously, Ukraine’s western partners, as well as the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, insisted on the implementation of the customs reform.
