The travellers have pitched up on Eliburn Park, in West Lothian, ScotlandCredit: Michael SchofieldLivingston FC Community Club regularly hold children’s football games on the grounds – but theses are now at risk, locals say.

Adult teams also play on the pitches, but one match organised this weekend has already been forced to find a different location.

The club confirmed on Facebook they’re facing a “current pitch issue” and underlined the importance for community football.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Livingston FC Community Club told the Daily Mail: “We are already seeing illegal fly tipping on the park, illegal quad bikes churning up the grass pitches and disgusting people doing the toilet in the trees around the park.

“Please, please, please continue to report all illegal activities to the Police and Council and hopefully the more they receive will instigate a stronger response.”

They further hit out at the alleged “disgusting behaviour” and urged the authorities to find a swift solution.

Locals continue to voice their frustrations on social media, with one saying they were “absolutely gutted” for Livingston FC Community Club.

Someone else claimed the group were served a notice to leave the park.

“They always stay the legal maximum two weeks then move. They know the law better than the police,” they added.

Another claimed: “Reported them and also the fact that they are using the woodland as their public toilet.

One scathing resident added: “Everyone has a right to the way of life they choose but these people choose to live a life that deliberately impacts on others with no concern for the impact they make.

“Get them moved on ASAP.”

A spokesperson for West Lothian Council confirmed: “Safer Neighbourhood officers visited the site yesterday on being notified of the unauthorised encampment.

“A notice to quit was served, which expires today. 

“If the travellers fail to remove from the site, Legal Services will be instructed to pursue court action for eviction.”
