FT: Trump was interested in two points of the “victory plan” presented by Ukraine

Even before his election as the US president, Donald Trump expressed interest in two points of the so-called “victory plan” presented by Ukraine, and the plan itself was drawn up, in particular, taking into account the possible rise of Trump to power. The British newspaper Financial Times writes about this on Tuesday with reference to sources.

Two of the ideas in the “victory plan,” according to people involved in its development, were aimed specifically at Trump. One of them provided for the replacement of part of the American troops stationed in Europe with Ukrainian troops after the war.

The other, first drafted by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, a Trump ally, proposes sharing Ukraine’s critical natural resources with Western partners. Graham’s office did not respond to a request for comment.

According to the Financial Times, Trump was “interested” in these two points, according to a person briefed on the meeting.

In Kyiv, it is said, they expect that this interest will contribute to the fact that the future US president will positively perceive other proposals of the “victory plan”.

Also, as the FT notes, representatives of Ukrainian business are offering the US administration to participate in the so-called investment selection – determining who can do business in the country. At the same time, it is assumed that Chinese investors will be limited, while American investors, on the contrary, will be given a “green light”. Interlocutors of the publication believe that this proposal will also interest Trump.

Officially, the authorities of Ukraine and Trump’s representatives did not comment on the publication.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi calls the package of proposals to Western allies to increase support for Ukraine a “victory plan”, which, in his opinion, should lead to the fact that Russia will start looking for peace on favorable terms for Ukraine. The plan was presented to Trump during Zelenskyi’s meeting with the then-Republican presidential candidate in September in New York.
