The FT article explains that the list was formed after consultations with reporters, columnists and editors of the publication, who had to answer the question “who really changed the world this year.”
Figures from the world of politics, business, media, art and sports were included in the list, and texts were written about them “the most famous people in their sectors, as well as fans from various industries.”
The text about Simonyan was written by the American journalist Julia Joffe. INshe called her “the most loyal messenger of Vladimir Putin, his Valkyrie of propaganda.”
Verbatim FT: “She is perhaps Vladimir Putin’s most loyal emissary, his propaganda valkyrie. Unlike some older men who toe the Kremlin line.
Simonyan never had a liberal period, even when she was an exchange student in the US.
She has always been a Putinist, which is why in 2005, at the tender age of 25, she became the founder and editor-in-chief of Russia Today, the now multilingual, global media network controlled by the Kremlin, later renamed RT.
Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2014, it has advocated the annexation of Ukrainian territory. After a full-scale invasion in 2022, it called for even more drastic measures, such as using Russia’s blockade of the Black Sea to starve the world into submission and detonating a nuclear bomb in the atmosphere over Siberia to paralyze the world’s communications systems.
Details: Yoffe also writes that Simonyan is convinced that the West is “envious of Russia,” and she calls Great Britain a “disintegrated empire.”
Along with Simonyan, the FT included NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, Oracle CEO Safra Katz, China’s BYD Vice President Stella Li, PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel, Reform UK CEO Nigel Farage and Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon in the “Leaders” section.
In the “Creators” section, in particular, actress and singer Cynthia Erivo, director Ryan Coogler, writer Helen Garner, singer Rosalia and artist Bad Bunny appeared, and in the “Heroes” section — Margaret Atwood, Rory McIlroy, Jane Fonda and others.
There are no Ukrainians in this year’s Financial Times list, and only Russian propagandist Margarita Simonyan is mentioned among media representatives.
