“American tennis player gave an interview with Tennis Insider”, – WRITE: Sport.ua
“Oh, yes. It’s terrible. I understand why they did it. But in my opinion, it is bad for the tennis itself. To play as such, it is definitely bad. Although, perhaps, it is more interesting for the audience if, for example, it was possible to hear that you were talking to your coach if the fans could listen to these conversations, it may have made the game more entertaining. But we do not even do it.
That is, it turns out that we do not get it. And tennis is such an individual sport. Why can someone else tell me what to do if a strategy is such an important part of the game? For example, to understand what a rival does, what a draw, how he builds the game. Maybe I need to get out of this template? Perhaps the way I now build draws, does not work and does not produce results. We need to change something.
Or vice versa – I do something that overcomes it. Why, if the opponent cannot guess what he needs to change, may anyone say that? It’s full of nonsense. In my opinion, the whole point is that during the match real chess in the head is ongoing – this is a large part of tennis. Why do we refuse to give this if a coach can just give a hint?
Of course, I also talk to my coach during the match is allowed. But I almost never ask, “What do I do?” I rather share what I think and think. And he simply confirms my observations. It’s rather a second thought. I say what I notice, and he replies: “Yes, I think so too.” And it becomes easier and more confident to do what I thought about. ”
