“Calls for a voluntary interview on April 20, 2026 in Paris were sent to Elon Musk and Linda Jaccarino as the de facto and legal heads of Platform X at the time of the events,” the Paris prosecutor’s office said.
Jaccarino stepped down as CEO of X last July, after two years at the company’s helm.
The French law enforcement officers add that they also summoned X’s employees as witnesses for interviews on April 20-24.
As explained by the prosecutor’s office, the purpose of the conversations with the executives is to allow them to explain their position regarding the events and the compliance measures they plan to take.
Searches in X’s office were conducted by employees of the cybercrime department of the prosecutor’s office. The operation involving Europol became part of an investigation launched in January 2025.
Investigations into X began after the first complaints were received a year ago. One of them came from Eric Botorel, an MP from President Emmanuel Macron’s centrist party, who pointed to a “decrease in diversity of opinion” and Musk’s “personal interference” in running the social network since he took over the platform in 2022.
The investigation was widened following new claims criticizing the role of the Grok AI chatbot in spreading Holocaust denial and sexist deepfakes.
X’s lawyer, Kami Haeri, who was contacted by AFP, declined to comment.
So far, Elon Musk has not publicly commented on the call for an interview.
The social network’s management in France has spoken out against the investigation, stressing that X has “strict, clear and public rules” protecting the platform from incitement to hatred and misinformation.
