“We are not concerned about the return of money, but the needs of our defense industry. Our defense industry will require a number of most important types of raw materials for our own weapons systems, and not next year, but for the next 30 or 40 years,” he said.
According to Lecorny, he was entrusted with this issue personally by French President Emmanuel Macron.
The French Minister of Defense also shared with journalists that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky was considering the prospect of possible mineral mining agreements from last fall under the Victory Plan of Ukraine. He noted that negotiations with the Ukrainian side have been underway since October.
The publication added that according to the World Mining Data research for 2024, Ukraine owns about 5% of the world’s mineral reserves. However, not all these resources are produced.
It is noted that in Ukraine there are reserves of manganese, uranium, graphite and iron ore, which are used in the defensive and technological industry. The study states that the total cost of natural resources is estimated at more than 14 trillion euros.
