After the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, he fled Ukraine. In June 2022, the SBU accused Derkach of working for Russian intelligence. He is also on the US sanctions list.
In January 2023, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stripped Derkach of his citizenship, and the Verkhovna Rada stripped him of his mandate.
What preceded: In 2023, NABU and SAP referred the case against Derkach to the court for treason and illegal enrichment. In particular, he was supposed to discredit Ukraine in the international arena, worsen diplomatic relations with the United States, and hinder Ukraine’s integration into the European Union and NATO. The investigation established that he received at least $567,000 from law enforcement and intelligence agencies of the Russian Federation for subversive activities against Ukraine.
