In March 2022, in an interview with the YouTube channel “Typovy Vojshkomat”, Oleksandr Kuzmuk stated that at the beginning of the Russian invasion, he joined the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as a volunteer. The video of this conversation is currently unavailable.
71-year-old Oleksandr Kuzmuk became an army general in 1998. He was a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of the 4th, 6th and 7th convocations from the Party of Regions and twice the Minister of Defense – in 1996-2001 and in 2004-2005.
In October 2019, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, by his decree, dismissed Army General Oleksandr Kuzmuk from military service by age “with the right to wear a military uniform.”
