Forecasters predict heavy snow and ice in Ukraine

The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center warns of worsening weather conditions this week.

“Due to the movement of active atmospheric fronts through the territory of Ukraine, difficult weather conditions are expected on November 20 in the western regions, on November 21-23 in most of the country, and on November 24 in the eastern regions:

• significant precipitation in the form of rain and snow, wind gusts of 15-20 m/s (in the Carpathians, heavy snowfall, wind gusts of 25-30 m/s, blizzards);

• in Ukraine, except for the southern part, the formation of a snow cover with a height of 3-15 cm (in the Carpathians, 20-50 cm), ice on the roads;

• ice and wet snow will be observed in some places”, – reads the forecast published on November 18.

Forecasters note that operational information will be specified by separate warnings for each day. Weather conditions will complicate the work of energy and utility companies, disrupt traffic.

A blizzard covered Odesa and the region on November 26. As a result of bad weather, a 100-meter-long pipe of one of the boiler houses collapsed in the city, as a result of which more than 120 thousand people were left without heating. The authorities also said that the contact network was cut off, due to which the movement of most trolleybuses and trams was stopped.
