A court in the Sverdlovsk region of Russia fined 20-year-old resident of the city of Kamiansk-Uralsky Serhii Glukhikh for a new administrative article on the search for materials that the Russian authorities consider “extremist”. This was reported by the RBC agency with reference to the lawyer of the Deaf.

The amount of the fine is three thousand rubles. The lawyer said that the defense will “unequivocally” appeal the decision when it receives the motivational part.

Serhiy Glukhykh was charged with searching for materials about the Russian Volunteer Corps and the Azov Battalion, which the Russian authorities declared “terrorist organizations.”

The defense insisted that Glukhikh was not specifically looking for this information, but simply “came across the symbols and materials of banned organizations” while surfing the Internet. It remains unclear how the security forces found out which pages Glukhykh viewed.

President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin signed the law prohibiting the search for extremist materials on July 31, and the rule came into effect on September 1.
