With the support of the “Know Your Ukraine” project, this year the Christmas procession with carol stars took place in many cities and villages from different parts of the country, even in the front-line Zaporizhzhia and a small community of the Mykolaiv region. The procession was also held in communities in Odesa, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Zaporizhia and Kyiv regions. Several more communities are at the stage of preparation and plan to hold festive events during the week. Patron and co-author of the project Hnat Korobko told about this in a comment to UNIAN.
“We were pleasantly surprised how many people from different communities of Ukraine, even the front-line ones, wanted to join and revive our ancient winter tradition. Thanks to them, the Christmas procession with carol stars took place in Odesa, Kharkiv, communities in Chernihiv, Zaporizhia, Mykolaiv, and Kyiv regions. Even in front-line Zaporizhzhia. At the same time, several communities from Vinnytsia, Sumy, Dnipro, Khmelnytskyi and Ivano-Frankivsk regions are at the stage of preparation and plan to hold festive events by the end of this year,” Hnat Korobko said.
He noted that the key element of the Christmas procession was the big carol stars, which residents of 15 communities received from the “Know Your Ukraine” project and patrons.
“The key element of the procession was large Christmas stars – a traditional attribute of carolers. Within the framework of the competition from “Know Your Ukraine” and the support of philanthropists, 15 communities received stars that they could paint together and use during the procession. We gave people paraphernalia and knowledge about this ancient tradition, and they already did everything else. We gathered people, put on costumes with elements of traditional clothing and organized a procession in their town or village. because Ukrainians love and value their traditions and culture. People just need to be reminded of our roots, they will do the rest themselves,” said Hnat Korobko.
As previously reported, the “Know Your Ukraine” project announced a competition for residents of communities from all regions on the eve of Christmas. More than 100 public, cultural and youth organizations from all over the country, from Kharkiv to Chernivtsi, participated in the selection. According to the results, 15 winners were chosen, who received large Christmas stars to hold a procession in their community.
“Know Your Ukraine” is an educational project about traditional culture implemented by the “KOLO” Charitable Foundation, Ivan Honchar Museum, EdEra educational platform, and Ukrainian philanthropist Hnat Korobko.
