He was conscious when he was put into an ambulance and taken to Andres Isola Hospital in the Patagonian city of Puerto Madryn where Nievas’ club is based.
The incident occurred during a training session on Thursday morning.
Deportivo Madryn said in a statement: “During yesterday’s morning training session, goalkeeper Mauricio Nievas suffered cardiac arrest and was immediately assisted by the club’s medical staff.
“On our premises, using a defibrillator, the player regained consciousness and was transferred to the intensive care unit of the city hospital.”
Nievas, born in the Argentinian city of Cordoba, is one of his club’s four goalkeepers.
In 2021. he helped the side reach the Primera Nacional, the second division of the country’s football league system popularly known as the B, two years after signing.
Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas, regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in footballing history, announced his retirement from the game in August 2020 following his May 2019 heart attack while he was training with Porto.
Former Man City star Sergio Aguero’s glittering career was also cut short because of a heart condition.
He played only five games for Barcelona following his departure from Pep Guardiola’s side.
He was diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat days after he was taken to hospital clutching his chest, complaining of breathing problems and dizziness during a game against Alaves at the end of October 2021.
Aguero signed for Barcelona after becoming Manchester City’s record goalscorer during his decade at the Citizens.
