“In the Geneva Convention, which our country adheres to, the norms of maintenance of prisoners of war are prescribed: these are comfortable conditions that provide medical care, food, parcels, letters, time for rest. It is also given the opportunity to work, for officers – only with their consent, ”the staff said.
It was added that there are no such specialized camps in the Russian Federation, Ukrainian prisoners of war are held in prisons, where there are separate blocks.
In 2022, Ukraine managed to start the process of exchange of prisoners of war: earlier during the fighting, exchanges never took place, only after their completion. The work aimed at this is conducted by Ukraine on a constant basis. Even though Russia can cancel the exchange at any time and has done so many times.
“According to the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, 10 thousand UAH per month is received for the maintenance of one Russian prisoner of war. Those who work have the opportunity to spend the earned: there is a store in the camp, and when the prisoner wants to buy something, they are written off from his account, and instead they give out products, ”the coordination headquarters on prisoners of war reported.
According to them, once a month the staff organizes the arrival of media representatives from different countries: from them the international community can find out in what conditions the Russian military is held. All journalists are warned that they can only communicate, photograph and record on the video only those prisoners of war who gave their consent.
The headquarters also showed a set that every prisoner of war receives, arrived in the camp: three pairs of shoes – boots, shoes and flip flops; several pairs of socks; Pants, jacket, linen, hat, cap, as well as soap, toothpaste and brush, towel, toilet paper, razor.
The camp necessarily has a medical building with offices, which are equipped with modern medical equipment: there is an X-ray, ultrasound, dental, etc. Doctors of narrow specialties work here, including radiologist, surgeon, therapist, neuropathologist, dentist, psychiatrist. Cardiograms, teeth treat and weigh regularly prisoners.
According to the camp workers, almost all prisoners of war record a monthly weight gain.
The menu in the dining room in the camps changes daily, and prisoners of war do not have nutrition: the weight of all foods (meat, porridge, bread) – according to the Armed Forces.
In the afternoon, many prisoners of war go to work. According to the Geneva Convention, their work should be such that it would not humiliate human dignity.
On the territory of such a camp there is a sports ground for physical education.
Earlier it was reported that in Ukraine Russian prisoners of war will be entitled to telephone conversations, but under certain conditions.
And six fighters, including a 32-year-old Russian, a guardian of Russian “military” Zakhar Prylepin, reported suspicion. They were captured during the battles in the Pokrovsky, Siversky and Toretsky directions at the end of 2024.
