The Slovak prime minister accused the opposition politicians of “kissing Zelensky’s ring”.

In particular, the prime minister accused the opposition politicians of sycophancy, saying that they “kissed Zelenskyi’s ring” and that they “promised him support for Ukraine’s membership in NATO” if they came to power.
In addition, according to Fico, representatives of the opposition held talks with the Ukrainian authorities about the participation of Slovakia in the possible sending of Western troops to Ukraine. And this is exactly what he called “the most dangerous moment of the opposition’s trip to Kyiv.”
“The government that I lead will never support Ukraine’s membership in NATO, because it will only lead to the third world war. The government will also never propose to send troops to Ukraine to return weapons against the Russian Federation,” Fico said.
Meanwhile, the leader of “Progressive Slovakia” Michal Shimechka denied the Prime Minister’s words about supporting Ukraine’s membership in NATO and called them a lie. He assured that this was not discussed during the visit.
Fizo also reproached Zelensky for refusing to meet with him at the World Economic Forum in Davos, as Fizo proposed, in order to agree on gas transit, which Ukraine has stopped since January 1, 2025.
He threatened to respond to Zelenskyi’s actions with “reciprocity”, in particular, to veto further EU financial assistance to Ukraine, as its approval requires unanimity.
“Robert Fico is the Prime Minister of Slovakia, not a Ukrainian servant,” he said.

Fizo has repeatedly criticized Zelensky about this and accused him of sabotage.
The Slovak Prime Minister also complained to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz about Ukraine. At the same time, he called Zelenskyi’s decision to stop gas transit through Ukraine “causing significant damage to Slovakia and causing billions in losses to the entire European Union.”
Zelenskyy commented skeptically on Fico’s idea to meet in Davos. He said, in particular, that he cannot plan anything in the case of Robert Fizo, because he “can go to Davos, but he will end up somewhere in Sochi.”
