Details: According to the publication, two explosions occurred around 7:30 p.m. local time, shortly after the end of the court session. As a result of the incident, all judges and staff were able to leave the building safely.
Local firefighters confirmed the death of one person. According to the Vice Governor of the Federal District of Brazil, Selina Lean, the police assume that the deceased may have been involved in the incident.
“It could have been a lone wolf like the others we’ve seen around the world,” Leanne said at a press conference. “We are treating it as a suicide since there was only one victim. But the investigation will show whether it was really the case,” the official added.
The police surrounded the square, blocked the entrances and are conducting a thorough examination of the territory around the palace.
Literally: “Brazil’s federal police have opened an investigation into the incident, although the motive is not yet known. Due to the tension surrounding the Supreme Court in recent years, caused by threats from far-right groups and supporters of ex-president Jair Bolsonaro, the court itself could have been the likely target of the incident.”
Details: Earlier, another explosion rang out in the parking lot of the Congress of Brazil. According to the police, the explosion probably came from a car. Although no one was injured, police are investigating a possible connection between the two incidents.
