Guangzhou Long Lions basketball club guard Zhang Xinliang has found himself at the center of a scandal after being found guilty of breaking club rules. The young player hid the girl in a suitcase to take her to the team’s hotel on the eve of the match against Qingdao.

According to the club’s internal regulations, players are prohibited from bringing guests, including girlfriends, to the team hotel before games. However, 20-year-old Zhang decided to circumvent the ban by using an unusual method – a large suitcase.

The story gained notoriety after the girl, an art student, posted on the Chinese social network Weibo a photo of herself sitting in a suitcase. In the caption, she said that Zhang helped her break into the hotel and spent the whole night studying her. According to friends of the student, she had difficulties with studies and failed several exams.

The incident caused a negative reaction, and the girl deleted the post. Zhang Xinliang himself, who is in his second season with the Long Lions, has already been disciplined by the club. He is averaging 6.4 points, 1.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 0.8 steals per game this season. In the match against Qingdao that took place after the incident, Zhang spent 25 minutes on the floor, scoring 5 points and 2 rebounds.

This case became the reason for an active discussion in social networks and called into question the discipline in the team.
