Details: After the closed negotiation part of the Ukrainian and American delegations at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach (Florida, USA), Zelenskyi and Trump held a video conference with European leaders.

The composition of the participants was announced by the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, noting that the Presidents of France, Emmanuel Macron, Poland, Karol Nawrocki, Prime Ministers of Great Britain, Keir Starmer, Prime Ministers of Italy, George Maloney, Norway, Jonas Gar Stere, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, as well as NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen joined the conversation. “The call lasted more than an hour. We discussed concrete steps to end the war. We are all working for a just and lasting peace,” Stubb wrote on X’s social network.

Polish President Karol Nawrocki, according to the Office of the President, during the video conference emphasized the firm commitment of the US president to the peace process and emphasized that since the beginning of the full-scale aggression of the Russian Federation, the Rzeszów-Jasionka airport served as a hub for more than 90% of aid to Ukraine.

“Poland’s position during the signing of the peace agreement will be of decisive importance. Today’s conversation demonstrates that all agreements on peace and security in the region must be reached between all interested parties. The determination of the American side and the unity of the position of European countries gives a real chance to end the war caused by the Russian Federation,” the message said.

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, reported on the positive results of the conversation and “notable progress”.

Irish Prime Minister Michal Martin also welcomed the progress made. “I welcome the progress in the peace talks in Ukraine that Presidents Trump and Zelensky talked about this evening in Florida. I strongly hope that this will be built in the future to ensure a ceasefire,” he wrote.

The Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Dick Schoof, noted that the positive signals from the USA should be confirmed by actions on the part of Russia. “Now Russia must show that they really want to stop this war and that they want to seriously negotiate a just and lasting peace. The Netherlands continues to support Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression,” he emphasized in a post published on the X social network following the meeting of the Ukrainian and American delegations in Mar-a-Lago.

Ministers of foreign affairs of European countries also confirmed their support for Ukraine. The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, David van Wiel, announced further steps at the peace talks in Miami and emphasized the need to increase pressure on the Russian Federation.

“The Netherlands continues to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression and for lasting peace. We must continue to increase the pressure on Russia to end its war,” he said.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic Jan Lipavsky called the results of the meeting between Zelensky and Trump optimistic. “Ukraine wants peace. Russia has been waging a war of aggression for more than 1,400 days. We must force Putin to make peace with the help of economic sanctions and the strength of the Ukrainian defense,” he said.

Prehistory:

  • December 24 Zelenskyi stated that Ukraine can submit a twenty-point peace agreement for ratification by the parliament or hold an all-Ukrainian referendum, and may also decide to hold elections in the country simultaneously with the referendum. According to the president, a minimum of 60 days and a complete ceasefire for this period are needed to hold the referendum.
  • December 28 a meeting between Zelenskyi and Trump took place in Florida. Thereafter a video conference of the two presidents with European leaders took place.
  • Trump said that on Sunday he spent “good and very productive” a conversation with the ruler of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin before his meeting with Zelensky.
  • Assistant to the ruler of the Russian Federation, Yuriy Ushakov, said that during this conversation Putin and Trump allegedly agreed that a temporary ceasefire “under the pretext of a referendum” only leads to a prolongation of the conflict.
  • Trump said that Russian President Vladimir Putin did not agree to a ceasefire during a possible referendum in Ukraine on the “peace plan”.
