“Europe has currently purchased more new military equipment than the US, which testifies to a clear departure from supplies from stocks in favor of industrial production”, – specified the head of the Project group of Ukraine Support Tracker Tarot Nissikawa.
At the same time, when Donald Trump restored the supply of weapons to Ukraine in May this year, it was no longer about military assistance, but about regular sales that Kiev should finance on its own. This question was taken over by Europe.
In addition, in Europe continued to support Ukraine. In recent months, Germany has allocated a package of military assistance worth 5 billion euros, Norway has provided 1.5 billion euros, Belgium – EUR 1.2 billion. The Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Denmark have allocated approximately 500-600 million euros each.
Financing of assistance mostly goes at the expense of frozen Russian assets of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation. According to Nissikawa, it is a key tool for Ukraine’s financial stability in war. However, since the assistance promised in October 2024 will be paid in stages and the funds are declining, according to Nissikawa, there are doubts that donor countries will be able to maintain support at the same level in the future.
