European countries are calling on the administration of US President Joe Biden to increase support for Ukraine in order to strengthen Kyiv’s position as much as possible before the newly elected President Donald Trump comes to power, Bloomberg reports.

It is noted that there is concern in Europe that the future peace agreement that Trump may offer will be disadvantageous for Ukraine and will secure for Russia the territories occupied by it after the invasion in 2022.

According to the interlocutors of the publication, European leaders and officials have asked the US to provide Ukraine with more weapons and artillery, to impose additional sanctions on key Russian revenue streams and to limit Moscow’s ability to purchase prohibited technologies used in the production of weapons. It is noted that many European inquiries were of an informal nature. Bloomberg calls these appeals the last desperate call” of European representatives before the change of administration in the USA.

The article also says that the US is already working on the adoption of new sanctions against the Russian oil sector and North Korea, which sent troops to help Moscow, they should be adopted by the end of November.

Several EU leaders also insisted that the US allow Ukraine to use Western weapons to strike military targets inside Russia. This move, according to Kyiv and its allies, will significantly improve the ability to defend against Moscow’s attacks on critical infrastructure.

Biden has so far resisted the request, while German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has openly opposed it. People familiar with the U.S. position said it would have limited impact on the battlefield and was not worth the risk of escalation.

For its part, the EU is preparing for a “disruptive” Trump presidency amid fears that the bloc will need to increase aid to Kyiv as US support declines.

Trump’s “peace plan” for Ukraine – what is known

On November 6, The Wall Street Journal reported that Donald Trump’s advisers put forward different versions of the plan to actually freeze the front line in Ukraine. One of them provides for Ukraine’s refusal to join NATO for 20 years.

According to the publication, this plan includes freezing the front line and creating an 800-mile demilitarized zone (almost 1300 km). In addition, it provides for Russia to leave approximately 20% of the territory of Ukraine, which the aggressor country seized.

On November 7, it was reported that the Office of the President of Ukraine doubted the authenticity of this plan.

In general, it can be said that the real plans of the presidents are hardly announced in the newspapers. And there are always a lot of Russian interjections in the newspapers,” Dmytro Lytvyn, adviser to the president of Ukraine on communication, commented on the publication.

A new dangerous period. What should Europe prepare for under Trump?

The Economist reported that officials in Ukraine rely on two public formulations of Donald Trump’s “peace plan”.

For its part, The Telegraph reported that Trump’s plan may involve placing European and British troops in a 1,200-kilometer buffer zone between the Russian and Ukrainian armies.

The first, associated with Trump’s vice-presidential nominee JD Vance, involves freezing the conflict along current lines and forcing Ukraine into neutrality with no apparent security guarantees or restrictions on Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

The second plan, which Ukraine allegedly prefers, voiced by former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in the Wall Street Journal, is to increase support for Ukraine as a deterrent to the Russian Federation, while keeping the prospect of NATO membership open. On November 10, Trump announced that he would not invite Pompeo to his administration.

The Telegraph reported that Trump’s plan could involve placing European and British troops in a 1,200-kilometer buffer zone between the Russian and Ukrainian armies.
