The European Union has announced the provision of 30 million euros to restore the water supply system in Kryvyi Rih, which suffered significant damage after Russia was destroyed by the Kakhovsky dam in June 2023.
This was reported by the EU Delegation press service in Ukraine.
The project will be implemented by the International Migration Organization (IOM). He has been announced on the second anniversary of the blast of the Kakhovka dam, one of the largest man -made disasters in Europe over the last decades.
“Russia’s attacks have seriously damaged Ukraine’s water infrastructure, leaving entire cities. With this EU project, it helps to restore vital services and reduce community vulnerability, such as Kryvyi Rih, ”said Joslen Corne, Head of Reconstruction, Energy, Infrastructure and Environment Department.
Prior to the blast, Kryvyi Rih received water from the Kakhovka reservoir. The loss of this resource forced the city to rely on outdated and limited alternative water sources.
The new project funded by the EU is intended to:
-
improve water quality;
-
reduce energy consumption;
-
reduce water loss in the system;
-
to increase the efficiency of water treatment plants.
In cooperation with KP “Kryvbasvodokanal” and the local authorities, the IOM will update pumping stations, replace pipelines and modernize the water supply infrastructure. It is expected that over the next two years the project will cover up to 700,000 inhabitants of Kryvyi Rih, including about 80,000 internally displaced persons.
Earlier, we wrote that material losses have reached about $ 14 billion as a result of the exploration of the Kakhovsky Hydroelectric power plant.
On the anniversary of the blast by Russian terrorists of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station at Ukrhydroenergo reported on the preparation of the claim for international arbitration on this.
