Ethereum developers have deployed the Mekong testnet to test the Pectra update.

The goal is to assess the impact of the EIP before the launch of the mainnet in the first half of 2025.

Suggestions include improvements to account abstraction, changes to validators, and network performance improvements.

The maximum validator stake limit is expected to increase from 32 to 2,048 ETH.

“Maybe we’ll see some minor specification changes or smaller EIPs. But all features will be included in existing public test networks [на кшталт Sepolia] and mainnet,” the message reads.

Pectra was originally planned to include 20 EIPs. Later, they were limited to eight.

The developers described Mekong as a “playground” where wallet creators can test the updated user experience and stakers can familiarize themselves with proposed code changes and features.

As a reminder, the Ethereum team proposed to split the big Pectra update into two parts. The first phase is planned to be activated in early 2025.

Previously, JPMorgan called the upcoming upgrade a significant event for the prospects of the second largest cryptocurrency.
