Details: As the head of the Estonian Defense Department, Hanno Pevkur, noted, Ukraine itself informed about the need for support to ensure Starlink communication.

“And of course, this is extremely important help for them, which has a noticeable effect on the battlefield. Starlink’s capabilities are especially important, given Ukraine’s desire to significantly increase the number of drones that require high-performance Internet connections,” said Pevkur.

He reminded that Ukraine fights every day for the freedom of all of Europe, including Estonia.

“That’s why, in addition to weapons, information technology support is also critically important, and that’s why I’m glad that we can help Ukraine improve its IT capabilities, thereby increasing its chances of winning a war that takes hundreds of human lives every day,” Pevkur added.

The 3.5 million euros allocated for the purchase of Starlink communication systems comes from the aid package for Ukraine, which Estonia has planned for 2025.

Funds earmarked for Starlink joint procurement will be channeled through an IT coalition led by Estonia and Luxembourg.

This year, Estonia provided military aid to Ukraine in the amount of about 0.3% of Estonia’s GDP. The assistance was aimed at the purchase of military aid for Ukraine through Estonian enterprises, training conducted by the Armed Forces, and information technology development with the help of the IT coalition.

We will remind: In August, the US State Department decided on the potential sale of satellite communication services and related equipment to Ukraine in the amount of about 150 million dollars.

And on Thursday, the countries of Northern Europe and the Baltics, which are part of NATO, agreed to finance a package in the amount of 500 million dollars within the framework of the PURL initiative, with the help of which American weapons are purchased for Ukraine.
