A just and lasting peace in Ukraine should come as soon as possible, and Turkey is ready to contribute to this, said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

This is reported by Ukrinform.

At a press conference after a meeting with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, he emphasized that the war must be ended as soon as possible before the situation worsens.

“A just and durable peace must be achieved in Ukraine as soon as possible … before the consequences of the war in our neighboring geography deepen even more,” Erdogan said.

He also emphasized that Turkey will continue to make efforts for this, in particular, he intends to discuss this issue with the new US President Donald Trump.

Answering a question about the scenario of ending Russia’s war against Ukraine, the prime minister of Slovakia said that his country plays an insignificant role on the world stage, so if the new US president, who was sworn in today, can end the war in a short period of time, then “it should support him” as much as possible.

On January 9, during a speech at Mar-a-Lago, US President-elect Donald Trump said that Putin wants to meet with him, and the organization of negotiations has already begun.

Before that, on January 7, Trump announced that he was going to meet with Putin after the inauguration.

On Monday, January 20, Donald Trump was sworn in and officially took office as the 47th president of the United States.

78-year-old Republican Donald Trump won the presidential election for the second time in 2024, ahead of the representative of the Democratic Party, Kamala Harris. He already held the post of president in 2017-2021.
