Prosecutors of the specialized environmental prosecutor’s office of the Ivano-Frankivsk regional prosecutor’s office documented systemic violations in the field of environmental protection in the territory of Prykarpattia. They cover several areas: illegal actions with the lands of the reserve and forest fund, soil and water pollution, and illegal extraction of minerals.

In 10 criminal proceedings, suspicion was reported to 12 persons, including three former officials of state and local self-government bodies. The total amount of established damages to the state exceeds UAH 8 million.

Lands of the reserve and forest fund

  • Yaremche The former state registrar illegally changed the coordinates of four land plots with an area of ​​0.52 ha. Because of this, they were registered on the territory of the Carpathian National Nature Park. Damages — more than UAH 1.8 million.

  • Mykulychyn The former land manager agreed to the transfer of 1.4 hectares of nature reserve fund lands to private ownership, knowing that they belong to the national park.

  • Bohorod residents The former head of the district department of the State Land Cadastre Center of the State Enterprise issued the documents on the basis of which 0.063 hectares of forest land were transferred to private ownership.

“Such actions undermine trust in the nature protection system. The lands of national parks are not a private resource,” the prosecutors said.

Soil pollution

In the village of Khryplin, the director of a private enterprise organized an illegal workshop for recycling automobile tires. Toxic waste was stored in the open, which led to soil contamination with heavy metals. The damage to the environment is estimated at almost UAH 500,000.

Lands of the water fund

The head of the farm illegally removed the fertile layer of soil on the lands of the water fund in order to create an artificial reservoir. A pit with a volume of almost 8.5 thousand cubic meters was formed. m is like four Olympic swimming pools.

Illegal extraction of minerals

The director of the brick factory organized the mining of loam outside the permitted area. According to the prosecutors’ calculations, the losses to the state amounted to 3.4 million hryvnias. “We will continue to monitor and stop any environmental violations. Nature cannot wait,” the prosecutor’s office emphasizes.

The work to detect and stop environmental crimes continues. According to Art. 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent until proven guilty in court.
