Researchers from Stanford University have developed a managed underwater work with soft manipulators capable of passing the operator tactile sensations in the operator real -time mode.

Oceanonek robot connects with a vessel on a surface that has access to the Internet. This makes it possible to control it from anywhere in the world.

Humanoid is equipped with soft, sensitive “hands” that allow you to interact even with fragile objects. Researchers raised treasures from the bottom that have been underwater for over 2000 years.

“We got beautiful oil lamps, graceful glasses – everything is in perfect condition. Archaeologists were amazed, ”said Katib’s robotics Center Director of Stanford Center.

The tactile interface allows the operator to “feel” the same as the robot underwater. This creates the effect of presence on the seabed.

“The uniqueness of this bot is that it is not just watching, but capable of acting,” Katib added.

Oceanonek can dive up to a depth of 1000 meters. In 2022, he performed a series of missions in the Mediterranean, in particular, examined the Settlement of the Roman Gallery (approximately 200 AD) and a submarine of the Second World War.

Katib believes that such devices can play for oceanology the same role as observatories – for the study of space.

“Now we can create oceanic observatories that researchers from all over the world will be connected to help remotely in the study, protection and restoration of the oceans.”

Recall that in May, Amazon introduced the work of Vulcan with touching sensors.
