VersionThe Editorial Office (Ukraine, Germany, 2024, comedy/drama)
In the center of the plot of the film is a young researcher of the Yura Natural History Museum, who is trying to save the rare animals of the wild steppes and forests of southern Ukraine from destruction. He is looking for a steppe marmot, which was allegedly seen by the villagers in these parts, but instead witnessed a forest fire. Idealist Yura takes photos of the arsonists and his article to the editorial office of the local newspaper, but neither nature nor justice is of interest to anyone here. Gradually, his naive vision of the world is destroyed in the maelstrom of fake news, corruption schemes and falsified elections.
The main role in the film was played by Dmytro Bagnenko, a journalist and now a soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, for whom this was his debut work in cinema. Also involved in the film are actress Rimma Zyubina (“Pamfir”, “DZIDZIO Contrabass”), film director Zhanna Ozirna (“Honeymoon”), journalist Serhii Ivanov, playwright Maksym Kurochkin, actor Andriy Kyrylchuk (“Pamfir”, “Berenstein”), director Oleksandr Shmal and others. It is also one of the last roles of Vasyl Kuharsky (“Maxim Osa and the Gold of the Doghead”, “Kruty 1918”, “Toloka”), who died in the battles with the Russian occupiers in early December 2023.
Roman Bondarchuk, widely known for his previous films “Volcano” and “Ukrainian Sheriffs”, acted as director and co-author of the script. “Editorial” continues the director’s series of films dedicated to the study of his native southern Ukraine.
The tape was shot in Kherson and the Kherson Region, in particular in the currently occupied Oleshkivskiy Sands. Filming was completed just a few months before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The world premiere of the film “Editorial” took place in February 2024 at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival in the Forum program. Later, it was shown at several international and Ukrainian film festivals.
The film currently has a rating of 6.7 out of 10 on IMDb.

HereticHeretic (USA, 2024, Thriller/Horror)
According to the plot of the film, two Mormon missionaries are trying to convert the inhabitants of a small town to faith. However, it seems that no one wants to listen to them, except for one elderly man, who gladly invites them to his house. However, at first glance, a nice listener turns out to be a real maniac and anti-religious fanatic. Now the girls will have to find a way out of his labyrinthine house with many traps and elaborate tortures, which the Heretic calls “a test of faith”.
The main role in the film was performed by the star of rom-coms of the beginning of zero, Hugh Grant (“Notting Hill”, “Bridget Jones’s Diary”, “Real Love”), who appeared in “Heretic” in a radically opposite role.
The roles of the Mormon sisters were performed by bright young actresses Sophie Thatcher (the series “Hornets”, “MaXXXin”) and Chloe East (“Fablemen”).
The film was directed by Scott Beck and Brian Woods, known for their script work in the “A Quiet Place” franchise.
The film currently holds a 7.2 out of 10 on IMDb, while on Rotten Tomatoes it holds a 91% “Certified Fresh” from critics and a 77% from audiences. At the same time, on Metacritic, film experts rated it 71 out of 100 points, and the general audience – 6.8 out of 10 points, which in both cases corresponds to the “generally positive reviews” characteristic.

MaryMaria (Germany, Italy, Czech Republic, 2024, drama/music/biopic)
The film tells about the last days of the life of one of the greatest opera singers of the 20th century, Maria Callas, which she spent in Paris in the 1970s. The audience sees Maria in the most intimate moments of her life, when she remembers the past, experiences losses and finds solace in music. The film explores the deep personal experiences of the world opera legend: her relationship with Aristotle Onassis, her struggle with loneliness and the love of art that defined her life.
The main role in the film was played by Oscar winner Angelina Jolie (“Interrupted Life”, “Lara Croft”, “Mr. and Mrs. Smith”, “Eternal”).
The film also stars Cody Smith-McPhee (the franchise “X-Men”, “In the hands of a dog”, “Elvis”), the star of Italian cinema Alba Rohrbacher (“The Strange Daughter”, “Chimera”), the winner of the Volpi Cup and the award David di Donatello – Pierfrancesco Favino (“Commandante”, “The Traitor”) and Valeria Golino (“Portrait of a Girl on Fire”, “Frida”, series “Morning Show”).
The film was directed by Chilean director Pablo Lorraine, widely known to the audience for his previous biographical dramas “Jackie” with Natalie Portman and “Spencer” with Kristen Stewart. The director’s previous work is the black horror comedy “The Count”, which is an original look at the Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet, who became a vampire and decided to die after 250 years of life.
The film currently holds a 6.7 out of 10 rating on IMDb, while on Rotten Tomatoes it holds a 77% approval rating from critics, with a “Certified Fresh” rating. At the same time, on Metacritic, film experts rated it 64 out of 100 points, which corresponds to the characteristic of “generally positive reviews”.

Wayana 2Moana 2 (USA, Canada, 2024, Comedy/Adventure/Animation/Family/Musical)
The cartoon is a continuation of the 2016 hit of the same name. This time, the daughter of the Polynesian chief Waiana and the demigod Maui once again embark on an exciting journey with a team of not-so-ordinary sailors. The adventure begins with an unexpected call from the wandering ancestors, which leads Wayana to the distant seas of Oceania. Extraordinary adventures await her in long-forgotten and dangerous waters.
One of the main characters in both parts was originally voiced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (Jumanji, Fast and Furious franchises, Black Adam, Codename Red).
The animation was directed by Dave Derrick Jr., for whom this is his feature directorial debut.
Father of the yearGoodrich (USA, 2024, Comedy/Drama)
In the center of the plot of the film is an adult man, whose young wife and leaves him with two small children, on top of which he is responsible for the housework, the family business and paying the bills. The only idea that comes to his mind is to call for help the eldest daughter from his first marriage, with whom he does not have the warmest relationship.
The main roles in the film were played by Michael Keaton (“Batman”, “Birdman”, “Beetlejuice”) and Mila Kunis (“Black Swan”, “Very Bad Moms”).

The film currently holds a 6.3 out of 10 rating on IMDb, while it has an 80% approval rating from critics and an 87% approval rating from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Teaching PeachesTeaches of Peaches (Germany, 2024, Documentary/Music/LGBT)
The film tells the story of the transformation of music artist Merrill Nisker, better known as Peaches, from music teacher to electroclash icon with a loud queer feminist voice. In her work, she undermines social norms, destroys gender stereotypes and fights against patriarchal prejudices. Peaches advocates for LGBTQIA+ rights and raises issues of sexual identity.
Her landmark album The Teaches of Peaches was released in 2000, after the singer was diagnosed with cancer and decided to move from Canada to Berlin to start anew. Bold in its sex-positive and feminist statements, the record was something radically new for the musical culture of the zeroes, and Peaches influenced a whole generation of young writers.
Screenings take place within the framework of the Month of European Cinema, which will be held in the “October” cinema from November 1 to December 7.

Death trainThe Train of Death (Indonesia, 2024, horror)
According to the plot of the film, the construction of a railway to a new resort passes through a sacred forest, causing forest demons to go on a rampage and kill several workers. After some time, the first tourist train ceremoniously departs on a new route – a train of five cars must pass through five tunnels. After the first tunnel, carriage No. 5 mysteriously disappears.
The film currently has a rating of 4.7 out of 10 on IMDb.
Our little secretOur Little Secret (USA, 2024, Comedy/Romance)
At the center of the plot of the film are two ex-boyfriends, offended by each other, who discover that their new couples are brother and sister, so they will have to spend Christmas under the same roof, hiding their romantic history.
The main roles in the film were played by Lindsay Lohan (“Friday Friday”, “Bad Girls”) and Ian Harding (the series “Pretty Little Liars”).
The film will be available on Netflix from November 27, 2024.
