Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia has lost about 1,192,350 of its soldiers, in particular 1,730 people – in the last day, such data as of the morning of December 17 are provided by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian command also published its estimates of Russia’s losses in military equipment:

  • tanks – 11,427 (+6 units over the past day)
  • armored combat vehicles – 23,758 (+21)
  • artillery systems – 35,205 (+33)
  • RSZV – 1,571 (+1)
  • air defense equipment – 1,262 (+1)
  • planes – 432
  • helicopters – 347
  • Operational-tactical UAVs – 91,386 (+167)
  • cruise missiles – 4,073
  • ships/boats – 28
  • submarines – 2
  • automotive equipment and tankers – 70361 (+171)
  • special equipment – ​​4,027 (+1)

Russia does not officially disclose its losses. Moscow last reported the number of people killed in September 2022, when 5,937 people died.

On December 2, British intelligence analyzed data from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Russian losses in the war. An office at the British Ministry of Defense indicated that Russia is likely to have lost 382,000 soldiers killed and wounded since the beginning of 2025, with total losses during a full-scale invasion reaching 1.168 million.

“Russia’s average daily losses during November 2025 reached 1,033, according to the General Staff of Ukraine – more than 1,008 in October 2024, the third increase in a month in a row,” the summary says.

Kyiv also did not announce the losses for a long time, saying that the data would be disclosed after the war. At the same time, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, in an interview with NBC News at the beginning of 2025, stated that since February 2022, Ukraine has lost more than 46,000 soldiers killed and about 380,000 wounded in the war.
