On November 8, train traffic was seriously delayed due to power outages after night shelling in Poltava Oblast. Passengers of one of the trains were forced to walk independently along the tracks to get to the nearest station. The situation is complicated by the fact that earlier in the day the carrier denied traffic restrictions in the region.

The situation was particularly acute for the passengers of the train traveling from Chelm, Poland, to Kharkiv. It was supposed to arrive at its final destination at 1:42 p.m. on November 8, but stopped short of reaching the station in Poltava. According to the passenger Hanna Popova, who contacted the journalists by phone, the stop occurred due to problems with the electricity supply after the night shelling.

“We have been standing somewhere near Poltava since about 4 p.m. We were stopped in the middle of a field. The train did not reach the station. People who wanted to get off in Poltava, for example, got out and just walked along the tracks. At night, on foot,” the woman said.

The passenger emphasized the complete lack of communication from the carrier and alternative solutions.

“To provide some buses or just information on how to get there in another way – no one offered anything. We understand that there is a problem with the light. But we have been on the road for almost two days. We tried to call Ukrzaliznytsia, but they do not answer,” the passenger added.

It is worth noting that earlier that day the press service of “Ukrzaliznytsia” officially declaredthat there are no reductions in trains and traffic restrictions in Poltava Oblast. In its message, the company accused the anonymous “Telegram channels” of spreading “apocalyptic photos from the Poltava region”, sowing panic and intimidating Ukrainians with false information about problems with railway connections in the region.

So far, there have been no official comments from the carrier regarding long delays and the situation with the Chelm-Kharkiv train.
